Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the people to get moving!Exodus 14:5 New Living Translation
What do we do when we are faced with an obstacle? Do we stop and complain? Do we blame someone else? Do we turn back? After the Israelites left Egypt they moving further and further away from their enemies. They were moving further and further away from the place which caused them and their ancestors distress and pain for more than 400 years. They did not complain to Moses or God until the Egyptians started to follow after them. They did not complain until they were faced with their enemies on one side and the Red Sea on the other. The children of Israel said:
“Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? What have you done to us? Why did you make us leave Egypt?Exodus 14:10-11 New Living Translation
The children of Israel were caught between “a rock and a hard place” and they blamed Moses for their predicament. They were at a standstill. There was no other way they could go to escape the Egyptians. Moses tried to encourage the people with these words:
“Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”Exodus 14:13-14 New Living Translation
Moses told the children of Israel to stand still but God told Moses to tell them to do something completely out of the ordinary:
Tell the people to get moving!Exodus 14:15
It was the will of God for the people to “get moving”. It was the plan of God for Israel to move forward. There are times when it is the will of God to stop and there are times when it is the will of God for us to move. However, we must always keep this overcoming secret in our minds:
God’s instructions to stop or to move do not depend on whether or not there are obstacles in front of us. God’s instructions to stop or to move depend on His will and His plan for us.Secrets of the Overcoming Life
Obstacles never prevented God from doing anything on the earth and they never will.
- The darkness in the beginning did not prevent God from saying “Let there be light”.
- The barrenness of Sarah’s womb did not prevent God from saying ”
Sarah, will have a son!” (Genesis 18:10)
- The power of death on the earth did not prevent God from saying ”
He [Jesus] will be killed, but three days later he will rise from the dead.” (Mark 9:31)
If God has not told us to stop then it is time to “Get Moving”. Whether we are faced with a Red Sea or a storm in the sea, it is time to “Get Moving”. God will move the Red Sea and God will calm the storm but we must decide to move forward. This is not the time to give up or to turn back. This is the time to stand strong in faith and move towards the Promised Land.
