Christianity is a life of believing. There are certain actions which you would expect from a person who does a certain job. Fishermen catch fish. Pilots fly aircraft. Writers write books, articles, blogs, etc. I grew up in a Fishing Community. There is a Fish Market and around the Fish Market there are fishing boats. At some point in time these boats were used by fishermen to go catch fish. These fishermen would leave their families and go over the sea to find fish. Fishermen would spend days on the open sea to catch fish. They also knew what kind of fish they were looking for and some probably even knew where to look. If a fisherman decides to stop catching fish on a daily basis and becomes involved in another job, he is no longer a fisherman. Even if he keeps fishing as a hobby, he can no longer be classified as a fisherman. Fishing on a consistent basis is what fishermen do.
Believing on a consistent basis is what Christians do. Christians believe a specific message; the message of salvation from the God Who created the heavens and the earth. Jesus told His disciples to preach that message and He told them what would happen to those who believed that message:
15And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach THE GOSPEL to every creature. 16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (Mark 16:15-16 KJV)
Some people ‘believe’ that Christians are fools and are simply ignoring reality and science. Some people ‘believe’ that there is no God. Some people ‘believe’ that the Bible is just another work of fiction. Jesus said that there would be two categories of persons who respond to the message of salvation (the gospel):
- Those who believe
- Those who do not believe
Dear Christian, if you are reading this you are among those who believe. Those who do not believe were not there when you heard the message of salvation and believed it. Those who do not believe were not there when your heart was filled with joy and peace after you believed. You became a Christian by believing in a message which you know to be true. This message came from the God you know exists. It is a message about Christ, the Son of God. This is the message you believe. Therefore, stay in the category of believers and do not let those who do not believe persuade you otherwise. You are a believer so:
