This Way is the Overcoming Life

Can you tell me how to get to…? Have you ever asked for directions? Sometimes you receive good directions. Sometimes you receive bad directions. Sometimes persons direct us by telling us what to look for. Others can tell us the exact road to take. But how many persons are willing to show us the way? How many are willing to take the time to lead us to our destination? Not many. I have no problem taking time to give someone directions but taking the time to show them the way is a different thing entirely. Usually when someone asks me for directions to some place I am in the process of going somewhere. To give them directions I must stop that process and focus on that person that needs help. To show them the way is a more onerous task because I not only have to stop my journey but I now have to lead them to their desired destination.

One day Jesus told His disciples that He was going to prepare a place for them. Jesus also told them that they knew where He was going and how to get there. After hearing these words, Thomas asked:

“We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus replied:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. (John 14:5-6 NLT)

No one can get to a place without taking the road or the path to get there. Jesus told Thomas that He was the way…Jesus did not just tell them how to get to the Father. He showed them. The disciples saw how Jesus lived. They saw His faith in God. They saw His       prayer life. They saw His authority and power. They saw His love for the sick, wounded and dying. They saw His compassion. They saw when His hands touched the lepers. They saw when His hands healed the sick. They saw when He died on the cross. By His life Christ declared loudly to His disciples:
